What is a wine region to do when faced with two devastating threats? This question is top of mind in Australia’s Yarra Valley, where they are dealing with a phylloxera infestation and climate change.
When I asked Mac Forbes, winemaker/owner Mac Forbes Wines, he replied, “Can I flip a coin?” Surprisingly, the overall attitude in the region is positive – choosing to take lemons (phylloxera) and turn it into lemonade (rethinking past viticultural practices with an eye toward climate change preparations).
